A new down jacket created through a collaboration between eVent Fabrics and Allied Feather + Down aims to solve the problem of build-up of moisture both inside and outside the insulation chamber in insulated outerwear. It combines Allied’s ExpeDRY 800 fill power down with eVent’s highly breathable, downproof and weather-resistant two-layer StormburstLT laminate.
ExpeDRY 800 down is designed with gold particles that help speed up the evaporation of water vapour. The material is also completely windproof and free from PFAS chemicals. Together, these materials form a system that manages moisture both inside and outside the jacket.
According to Chad Kelly, vice president of eVent Fabrics, the collaboration offers a chance to rethink how insulation chambers in jackets work. By preventing external moisture from entering while allowing internal vapour to escape more easily than traditional shells, the system helps keep the insulation drier and more reliable.
ExpeDRY down was created specifically to deal with internal humidity. The technology uses gold particles integrated at the molecular level, which helps speed up moisture evaporation from the down clusters. This allows the insulation to maintain its loft even in damp conditions or during intense activity.
