Eurofins has been accredited by the Microfibre Consortium for testing

Eurofins BLC, a risk management solutions provider for the leather and synthetic material supply chains, has been certified to conduct testing using The Microfibre Consortium‘s (TMC) approved test method.

The influence of fiber release during domestic washing is taken into account in the test procedure. TMC approved Eurofins Softlines & Leather as one of its first third-party laboratory members in April, prompting this action.

Eurofins has also joined TMC, which was formed in 2018 to accelerate the development of solutions to reduce textile fiber fragmentation and its discharge into the environment during manufacturing and use.

Eurofin’s membership will enable the firm to assist in the development of effective solutions for the textile industry to reduce fiber fragmentation and release to the environment during the manufacturing and life cycle of textiles.

TMC is a multi-stakeholder organization made up of upstream and downstream stakeholders interested in learning more about the environmental impact of fiber fragmentation in the textile sector.

The continuous environmental consequences of fiber release into the environment are centered on the accumulation in ecosystems, which results in pollution, food chain disruption, and health/toxicological issues. As the situation worsens, microfibres (particularly the subcategory microplastics) are of special concern, while the long-term effects are yet unknown.

In making an offer, Eurofins BLC, a Microfibre Consortium-approved test method, will help collect data on behalf of customers and group members, with the long-term goal of collaboratively collate data, understanding the scope of the situation, and addressing ways forward to reduce the global impact of fiber fragmentation.
