Ester Industries’ 50:50 joint venture with Loop Industries has secured a non-binding letter of intent (LOI) from a global sports and athletic brand to supply up to 15,000 tonnes of Loop PET fibre-grade resin each year. The resin will be produced at the upcoming manufacturing facility of Ester Loop Infinite Technologies (ELITe) in Gujarat.
The facility will use Loop Industries’ depolymerization technology to process 100% polyester textile waste. The process will break down the waste into virgin-quality monomers, dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) and monoethylene glycol (MEG), which will then be used to produce polyester resin.
Initial testing of the resin and validation of textile waste as a raw material have delivered positive early results. The project will now move towards complete material testing and the development of long-term supply chains with global brand partners.
The facility is intended to support the growth of circular textile manufacturing by reducing dependence on virgin polyester made from fossil fuels. It is also expected to contribute to the development of lower-carbon supply chains for recycled polyester across international markets.
