German workwear brand Engelbert Strauss has joined the US Cotton Trust Protocol, further enhancing its commitment to sustainability. Through this partnership, Strauss will benefit from the programme’s advanced traceability tools, allowing the brand to track the journey of Protocol-grown US cotton throughout its supply chain.
As part of the initiative, Strauss will also encourage responsible cotton farming practices, aligning the core materials in its workwear with the brand’s high environmental standards. CEO Henning Strauss highlighted the brand’s ongoing dedication to a sustainable future. He noted that this collaboration aims to create an ecosystem that supports ethical sourcing, sustainable agriculture, better conditions for farmers, and greater transparency.
Launched in 2020, the US Cotton Trust Protocol is a voluntary programme that continues to grow despite industry challenges. The Protocol recently marked its sixth consecutive year of increased farmer participation and acreage. It welcomed Strauss to a growing list of members that includes Macy’s, URBN, and American Eagle.
Daren Abney, Executive Director of the US Cotton Trust Protocol, expressed enthusiasm about Strauss joining the initiative. He praised the brand’s sustainable efforts and noted that the partnership will give Strauss access to extensive data and tools to further reduce its environmental footprint.
