Eco-Fyre Fabric receives NAUMD innovation award

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-06-10 15:59:26 – Canada

Monterey Textiles has been honored with the 2025 NAUMD (Network Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors) Innovation Award for Sustainability for its Eco-Fyre fabric. This fabric was developed through a partnership with Canadian companies General Recycled and Filspec.

Created specifically for the oil and gas sector, Eco-Fyre is a partly recycled aramid fabric made possible by General Recycled’s unique recycling process in Vancouver, British Columbia.

This process turns old, decommissioned aramid garments into high-quality recycled fibres, yarns, and flame-resistant fabrics. It forms a true closed-loop system that reduces waste and extends the life of materials.

When combined with new (virgin) aramids, the Eco-Fyre fabric offers excellent flash fire protection, color retention, and comfort, while also promoting environmental sustainability. Rigorous laboratory tests and real-world wear trials have proven the fabric performs well under tough conditions without compromising safety or durability.

“Monterey’s success with Eco-Fyre showcases the strength of our patented recycling technology,” said Ted Parker, president of General Recycled. “Working with Monterey and yarn manufacturer Filspec to bring this eco-friendly fabric to market has been very rewarding. This award highlights the growing need for closed-loop solutions in flame-resistant textiles.”
