Eckhaus Latta unveils Unspun’s 3D weaving technology

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-09-14 16:44:37 – USA

Unspun, a company focused on reducing fashion waste, introduced its 3D weaving technology called Vega during New York Fashion Week. Eckhaus Latta was the first brand to use this innovative technology on a major runway.

Vega was created to combat the growing issue of fashion waste, which is expected to increase by 70% by 2050. Unspun recently completed a $14 million funding round to support the implementation of Vega and is currently testing it with several brands.

Vega allows Unspun to create woven pants like jeans and chinos in under 10 minutes, and it significantly reduces fabric scrap waste during production. This technology enables on-demand, zero-inventory production, making it more sustainable and efficient. Brands can set up localized and automated micro-factories, reducing transportation costs and emissions.

Unspun collaborated with Eckhaus Latta to create a collection featuring 3D woven frayed jeans and glittery wide-leg trousers that challenge traditional ideas of beauty and aesthetics. These limited-edition pieces will be available for purchase on both brands' websites in Spring 2024, priced between $395 and $600.

Eckhaus Latta shares Unspun's commitment to sustainability, often working with recycled materials and ethical manufacturing practices. Both companies are working together to find innovative solutions to the fashion industry's sustainability challenges.
