Dutch ministry to work with six organizations

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2020-06-03 10:13:54 – Netherlands

Support for boosting workers' rights in the garment sector. Six organizations, under the domain Stitch (from Sustainable Textile Initiative: Together for Change), will work together with the ministry to try to secure better work conditions for garment workers.

Fair Wear Foundation is the lead organization at the Stitch group. Among its directors, Alexander Kohnstamm, stated the aim is to bring about a business where fair rates and decent wages are the standard.

He said, "The crisis we're in now exposes how vulnerable garment workers are. The majority of them don't earn enough to maintain their households and lack any sort of safety net. We're delighted that the Dutch government values the work we are doing and shares the sense of urgency to make a genuine breakthrough for employees' rights"

Stitch will work with European garment manufacturers, trade unions in garment-producing nations, and labor rights organizations on collective bargaining to influence higher salaries and offices that are free from harassment.

The other organizations that makeup stitch include the Ethical Trading Labor Organization Cividep India and Dutch trade unions CNV Internationaal and Mondiaal FNV.
