Dupont to highlight its Surlyn 3D textile technology at PCD 2014

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2014-01-28 11:45:00 – New York

DuPont at the 10th edition of PCD(Packaging of Perfume, Cosmetics & Design) taking place on February 5&6 2014 at the Espace Champerret, Paris will be particularly highlighting the “DuPont Surlyn 3D textile” technology. It involves the overmoulding of a container wrapped in textile with Surlyn resin.

This unique encapsulation process allows going beyond and protect the ornamental textile which perfectly resists, without altering, to the injection moulding process - even the most fragile materials such as lace, claims DuPont.

The main aim is to stage the potential of the Surlyn product range as a source of creative new ideas for designers and brands in the perfume and cosmetics industry.

This encapsulation technology with Surlyn, allows objects, images, design elements and now even textiles to look as suspended in a crystal-clear cap for quite astonishing visual effects. The overmoulded decorations maintain fine details and show no distortion. Thus the design is preserved and magnified, such as the delicate red poppy embedded in the new cap of recently launched Kenzo Flower in the Air perfume, says DuPont.

Inside Kenzo’s cap produced with DuPont Surlyn by French packaging company SAF, is encapsulated a poppy corolla, visible from both sides thanks to a special laying and overmoulding process developed by SAF.

Sébastien Tindillière, technical manager - Surlyn injection moulding at DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers, on Wednesday, February 5 at 2 p.m. at PCD 2014, Espace Champerret in Paris will go ahead and present the new decorative effects during a conference entitled “Illusion or reality: new magnified decorative effects” .
