Decathlon UK partners with Planet Patrol to launch the 'Sustainable September' initiative

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2021-09-07 13:25:34 – United Kingdom

Decathlon UK has established a collaboration with Planet Patrol, an award-winning environmental non-profit, to organize ten flagship World Clean Up Day activities to help preserve the nation's playgrounds from litter pollution. The activities will take place during the weekend of September 18th across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The events will combine litter-picking activities such as stand-up paddle boarding, canoeing, and kayaking with land-based clean-ups such as walking and yoga, emphasizing Decathlon's wide range of outdoor pursuits while also demonstrating how favorite hobbies and environmentally friendly activities can combine and contribute to a good cause.

Decathlon has developed into one of the UK's top outdoor and sports stores since its inception over 20 years ago. The firm presently has 47 locations around the United Kingdom. The new shop, which spans 14,000 square feet, features a carefully curated selection of over 70 sports for clients to enjoy.

Decathlon has promised to remove 10,000 pieces of litter throughout the UK as part of the Sustainable September project, calling on local communities to help clean up the earth and reverse the impact of litter pollution by eliminating rubbish and monitoring it on the Planet Patrol app.

Decathlon's Eco-design and Second Life programs, which provide customers with the knowledge they need to make well-informed buying decisions, are being relaunched with this campaign.

Emma Woolley, Decathlon UK Sustainability Leader, said that it's fantastic to establish a new collaboration with Planet Patrol on such an important initiative, safeguarding the playgrounds and repairing the damage that litter pollution has brought to our communities. This not only helps a great cause, but it also inspires the rest of the country to get involved in a fun and active way.

Woolley added that World Clean Up Day has proven to be incredibly popular with their consumers in past years, and they were able to collect 3640kg of garbage through virtual activities in 2020. They're always looking for ways to improve, and their new Sustainable September collaboration will help them to collect more garbage than ever before. They’re certain that they will meet or surpass their goal, as well as inspire long-term behavioral change, and they are eager to get started.

Lizzie Carr, founder of Planet Patrol, said that they're pleased to be collaborating with Decathlon for World Clean Up Day 2021. During ‘Sustainable September,' Decathlon's aim is to collect, remove, and upload 10,000 pieces of litter to the World Patrol app, allowing people throughout the UK to get outside and be active while also helping to preserve our planet from the detrimental impacts of litter pollution.
