Cotton cultivation season 2018

ADC (D) Sakshi Sawhney directed that a daily progress report regarding weed removal be shared on WhatsApp and through email.She also directed the departments concerned to submit their action plan with her office and seek labour under MNREGA for removing weeds.

The campaign to remove weeds was being conducted successfully for the past two years. Under the campaign, every department was uprooting weeds in its areas as told by Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Guraditta Singh Sidhu during the meeting

Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra said that for 2018, the government aimed at bringing 1.10 lakh hectares of land under cotton cultivation as compared to 99,000 hectares last year. He convened a meeting regarding the campaign being run for the management and destruction of weeds that provide alternate habitat to the whitefly pest affecting cotton crop, ahead of the cotton cultivation season 2018.He also said that last year the cotton yield per hectare was 850 kg lint, which is now being targeted at 860 kg lint per hectare
