Cone Denim use Ionic+ technology to launch self-cleaning denim

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2020-10-27 11:09:34 – USA

Cone Denim, the textile manufacturer has launched its new self-cleaning denim that rarely requires washing. This not only ensures water consumption but also results in the reduction of microfibres released into the environment.

This new self-clean denim has been designed and developed by Cone Denim through their partnership with a global leader in antimicrobial and conductive solutions for surface application, Noble Biomaterials.

The company utilized Nobel’s Ionic+ technology to embed positive ions in the yarn fibers to inherit the growth of bacteria and microbes on the fabric, enabling the fabric to remain clean and odor free. This also eliminates the need to frequently wash jeans.

Steve Maggard, the president of Cone Denim, stated that Cone has remained committed to being a leader in the development of sustainable denim and has been working with like-minded partners to identify and lead initiatives to create more sustainable, responsibly produced denim. He further added that they were very excited to be among the first to combine the advanced science of Ionic+ with Cone’s authentic denim to create the industry’s first sustainable denim innovation.

Joel Furey, the CCO of Noble Biomaterials added that they were pleased to collaborate with Cone Denim to incorporate their Ionic+ technology into the innovation to create sustainable denim that provides long-lasting antimicrobial protection.

Nobel’s Ionic+ silver technology utilized the positively charged ions found in nature to disrupt the growth of microbes on Cone’s fabric. This intern ensures that the fabric remains clean and door free. The ions are permanently fused within the fibers of the fabric and will remain that way throughout the fabric's lifetime.  This ensures water and energy consumption by making the fabric self-care.

The denim fabric has specially been dyed using Cone Denim’s Distilled Indigo (pre-reduced) shade that ensures water and energy consumption right from the production stage.  Noble Biomaterials is a recognized Bluesign System Partner and has received OEKO-TEX® standard 100 certifications for its Ionic+fibres and filaments.
