Continental, a technology company, is contributing to the cruise industry's move towards sustainability and eco-conscious travel. At the Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo Europe, Continental showcased its new interior concepts, including upholstery materials such as skai Evida Fiber, skai Totexo EN, and skai Tovosoft EN. These materials aim to replace fossil resources with natural, sustainable alternatives, aligning with the trend towards eco-friendly practices in cruise travel.

The showcased upholstery materials from Continental's skai brand find application in various areas of passenger ships. From bed headboards, couches, chairs, and seats in different ship sections like lobbies, lounges, restaurants, bars, to outdoor and spa areas, as well as crew quarters' wall coverings and furnishings. The designs prioritize durability and incorporate the latest furnishing trends and colors exhibited at events like the Milan Furniture Fair.

One of the presented materials, skai Evida Fiber, features a diverse grain pattern and a fine fiber-like texture. Notably, it consists of 90 % natural and renewable components, offering a sustainable alternative to artificial leather. This material is highly resistant to abrasion, disinfectants, and is IMO flame retardant, ensuring both sustainability and comfort.

Continental's skai Totexo EN and skai Tovosoft EN stand out for their sustainability features. These materials utilize a backing made from recycled polyester fibers and are free of plasticizers, eliminating potential harm. skai Tovosoft EN, with its honeycomb structure, aims to provide a calm and inviting touch. The material's soft feel complements a range of understated colors, focusing on nude, beige, and earthy tones.
