Cone Denim establishes supply chain for recycled cotton

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-08-08 17:00:08 – USA

Greensboro, North Carolina based Cone Denim has established a registered supply chain for recycled cotton in Mexico. It has also launched its second zero-waste design collection at the recent Kingpins show in New York.

With this, the company has broadened its portfolio which now includes a closed-loop process for recycled cotton. Now, the customers can get verification and documentation of recycled cotton that the Cone Denim fabrics have.

Cone Denim president Steve Maggard said, “While both of our mills in Mexico are already RCS – Recycled Cotton Standard – certified for fabrics, we went a step further in having our fibre supplier certified. The demand for recycled cotton continues to grow and with this increased demand, we recognise the value for our customers to have third-party verification of the recycled content used in denim made by Cone.”

Cone Denim has identified and engaged with a third-party supplier in Mexico for the recycled cotton process to get certified. The certification standards set by Textile Exchange and certified by Control Union are necessary for the supplier to meet. RCS certification was received by Cone under this process. The company will have to undergo a yearly audit to maintain its standing.

Cone has also collaborated with several companies in the past. It partnered with Decode and sustainable wash innovator Jeanologia for the Interconnected collection displayed at Kingpins. It was based on Bonzai fabric produced with 100% post-industrial recycled cotton.

These mono-material jeans included 100% biodegradable Chroma SPC and Chroma Plus sewing threads from Cone’s sister brand American & Efird.
