The Circula-TEX initiative, funded by the European Union through the Horizon Europe programme, aims to bring about major improvements in how textiles are managed and recycled across Europe.
The project brings together 19 partners from nine European countries including Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands for a four-year collaboration. Their goal is to create a more circular textile system by developing harmonised Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes and circular practices that work across borders.
The consortium will focus on creating consistent and scalable systems for textile waste collection, processing, and recycling. This includes overcoming existing challenges such as differing regulations and inconsistent recycling efforts across EU member states.
A representative from RINA stated, “Circula-TEX is more than a project; it’s a strategic driver for the European Green Deal and the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles. Our shared mission is to develop real-world solutions that make every phase of a textile product’s life more sustainable.”
