Brazilian volleyball jerseys feature COOLMAX EcoMade fiber

The LYCRA Company has announced that its COOLMAX® EcoMade fiber, produced from 100% textile waste, is a key component in the Brazilian Volleyball team’s indoor and beach jerseys for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. These uniforms were unveiled on June 27, Volleyball Day in Brazil, with a spectacular projection on the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.

COOLMAX® EcoMade fiber helps athletes stay cool and dry by transporting moisture away from the body to the fabric’s surface, where it evaporates. This fiber is made from pre-consumer textile waste scraps and offers performance comparable to virgin polyester, contributing to the reduction of environmental impact. The jerseys also incorporate 8% LYCRA® fiber, enhancing their fit and freedom of movement.

Nicolas Banyols, chief commercial officer – apparel, The LYCRA Company, expressed excitement over the collaboration: “We are thrilled that Brazil’s volleyball uniforms feature 92% COOLMAX® EcoMade fiber made from textile waste and 8% LYCRA® fiber. The benefits of activewear and sportswear with performance fibers are now available to consumers of all abilities, ensuring everyone can experience enhanced comfort and performance.”

Camila de Paula Souza, Style Manager at Body Work | Riachuelo, highlighted the design inspiration and sustainability of the jerseys: “While the silver medal-winning 1984 Brazilian volleyball team uniform was the main inspiration for the design of this jersey, we wanted the fabric to be cutting-edge and future-focused. This fabric is designed to provide comfort and is made from textile waste—a win for athletes and a win for the planet.”
