Boohoo Group expands safety commitment by joining the Pakistan Accord

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-10-02 16:11:18 – Pakistan

Boohoo Group, a major online fashion retailer, has confirmed its participation in the Pakistan Accord, an expansion of the International Accord for Health and Safety in the Garment Industry.

This marks the first extension of the Accord, originally centered in Bangladesh, focusing on safety conditions, training, and improvements in factories producing the brands' garments.

"This move by Boohoo is significant for the fashion industry in adopting responsible business practices," said Zehra Khan, the general secretary of the Home-Based Women Worker’s Federation. The Pakistan Accord, supported by 77 fashion brands, including H&M Group and Zara owner Inditex, covers textile mills and ready-made garment facilities and operates on an interim term of three years.

While the inclusion of Boohoo in the Pakistan Accord is seen as a positive step for workers, challenges remain in ensuring the health and safety of the garment industry workforce.

Workers often face adverse health effects due to the demanding and unsafe conditions in the industry, and addressing these issues is a priority.
