Bolger & O’Hearn develops PFAS-free water repellents

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-03-22 18:32:49 – USA

Bolger & O’Hearn's research and development team has been working on improving their line of durable water repellents (DWRs) to comply with new regulations coming into effect on January 1, 2025. These regulations will restrict the sale of consumer goods containing PFAS chemistries. B&O's formulations prioritize safety and environmental friendliness without compromising performance.

One of their latest products, Shell-Tech Free M325 SC1, is not only PFAS-free but also does not contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and wax. It is designed to prevent build-up on pad rolls during application, making it easy to use at textile mills.

Shell-Tech Free M325 SC1 offers excellent water repellency for various fabric types and maintains its performance through multiple wash cycles, making it suitable for heavy cotton denim fabrics. It can also be foam finished and exhibits benefits even at low pad-bath concentrations and low-temperature cures.
