Birla Cellulose launches circular fiber blend

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-10-12 16:53:39 – India

Birla Cellulose, a part of the Aditya Birla Group known for pulp and fibers, has introduced a significant breakthrough - the Circular Fiber Blend. This innovative blend elevates the recycled fiber proportion to 50%, while maintaining high-strength yarn. It's designed for making fabric and garments in various categories.

The Circular Yarn Blend is a remarkable achievement in terms of sustainability. It has gained recognition from various standards like the Global Recycle Standard (GRS), Recycled Claim Standard (RCS), FSC certification, and High Index certification. Additionally, it uses blockchain technology for full traceability of the yarn blend, ensuring transparency and accountability in the supply chain.

The mechanical recycling process used to create this blend is both chemical-free and highly energy-efficient, minimizing energy consumption. It is a significant step in reducing the textile industry's environmental impact, as it has the lowest greenhouse gas emissions and requires minimal water usage throughout its lifecycle.

Birla Cellulose's initiative involves recycling mechanical textile waste using advanced technology, both from pre and post-consumer textile waste. The recycled fiber is blended with Birla's unique cellulosic fibers in a specific ratio. This innovative blend consists of 50% mechanically recycled pre or post-consumer waste fiber and 50% specialized cellulosic fiber.

By introducing this blend, Birla Cellulose aims to reduce energy usage, minimize water consumption, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and embrace eco-friendly practices in the textile industry. The goal is to create a sustainable environment and promote environmentally responsible textile production.

Mr. ManMohan Singh, the Chief Marketing Officer of Birla Cellulose, emphasized their dedication to addressing critical issues and fulfilling social responsibility. He highlighted their commitment to sustainability by creating a sustainable environment and encouraging eco-friendly practices. The innovative approach of recycling mechanical textile waste showcases their dedication to reducing the environmental impact of the textile industry.
