YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-12-05 17:55:28 – India

Indian company Birla Cellulose is teaming up with Israeli startup Algaeing to create eco-friendly fibers. They are working on using Algaeing's unique patented bio-based technology, which involves growing algae vertically, to make sustainable and biodegradable textiles. The goal is to develop fibers that do not require traditional dyeing, reducing environmental impact.

This approach aims to contribute to a more sustainable and zero-waste solution for the textile industry. By utilizing algae, Birla Cellulose and Algaeing seek to offer environmentally friendly alternatives in the production of fabrics and dyes.

Through this collaboration, Birla Cellulose and Algaeing aspire to revolutionize the textile industry by providing innovative, eco-conscious materials. The use of algae not only aligns with sustainability goals but also holds the potential to reduce the environmental footprint associated with traditional textile production processes.

Chief Technology Officer, Aditya Birla Group and Birla Cellulose, Dr. Aspi Patel, commented, “This developmental collaboration with Algaeing aligns well with Birla Cellulose’s focus on offering more sustainable fibers to consumers. We are keen to develop and scale this innovative new cellulosic fiber in collaboration with Algaeing.”
