BGMEA prioritizes employee health and nutrition training

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-04-30 17:05:18 – Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is committed to improving the health and nutrition of garment industry workers. This commitment was highlighted by BGMEA's vice president, Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, during a training session for BGMEA Hospital Chittagong staff. The session was organized by NNS and GAIN, a collaboration between the National Nutrition Service.

Chowdhury stressed the importance of providing workers with proper diet and healthcare, recognizing them as the backbone of industrial institutions and vital to the nation's export industry. He referred to them as proud partners of Bangladesh's development, emphasizing that their efforts contribute significantly to the country's progress.

According to Chowdhury, the health of the workforce directly impacts industry productivity and national advancement. However, he expressed concern over the loss of output due to nutritional deficiencies and lack of health knowledge, estimating a significant economic impact on the apparel business.

Chowdhury urged participants to recognize the importance of increasing productivity in today's competitive world. He emphasized the potential benefits of nutrition and health awareness training for the industry. The training session was attended by BGMEA director M. Ahsanul Haq, Mohammad Rakib Al Nasser, and garment owners.
