BGMEA, AWARE to bring DPP to Bangladesh’s garment industry

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2026-05-13 13:34:43 – Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dutch supply chain traceability platform AWARE to introduce blockchain-based transparency and Digital Product Passport (DPP) technology in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry.

This partnership comes at a time when the European Union is preparing to make Digital Product Passports compulsory from 2027. Under the upcoming regulation, all textile and garment products entering the European market will need verified product records showing details such as material source, production process, and environmental impact.

The partnership will allow factories to automatically create EU-compliant Digital Product Passports for garments. Each garment can be connected through a QR code to product documents that can be accessed by both brands and consumers around the world. The BGMEA–AWARE partnership aims to reduce compliance challenges for garment exporters as well as their international buyers.
