German chemical company BASF has entered into a partnership with Lemon, a South Korean high-tech materials manufacturer, to develop innovative material solutions using Freeflex, a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) fibre.

Under this collaboration, Lemon will integrate Freeflex into its production of waterproof and windproof apparel. Made from BASF’s Elastollan TPU, Freeflex enables the creation of nanomembranes with a reticular structure through electrospinning technology, offering improved performance in functional textiles.

According to BASF, Freeflex is a lightweight, highly water-repellent, and breathable material engineered to perform in harsh conditions while maintaining comfort and durability. Importantly, it is PFAS-free and fully recyclable, supporting the sustainability goals of both companies.

The fibre enhances the quality, drape, shape, comfort, and appearance of fabrics, making it suitable for a wide range of applications including footwear, apparel, hosiery, intimate wear, furniture, and home textiles, as noted on BASF’s website.
