Australian fashion brand, Bassike, is pleased to announce that they have achieved B Corp certification, following an in-depth review process by B Lab that verifies that bassike holds values of high social and environmental performance, corporate governance, and transparency – - confidence in the power of business to effect positive change.
Bassike joins Patagonia, Veja, Chloé, Vestiare Collective, Allbirds, Toms, and Aesop.
While B Corp certification does not guarantee that fashion's climate risks are over, there is a degree of commitment to becoming certified that requires enterprises to work toward a more equitable and sustainable economy.
B Corporation is a non-profit that provides private certification. It evaluates businesses to ensure that they satisfy the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public openness, and legal responsibility in order to balance profit with purpose.
The Bassike organization and characteristic organic cotton jersey product lines are also Climate Active Carbon Neutral certified. In a statement, Bassike stated that treating people and the environment with respect has been at the core of the business since its inception in 2006.
Bassike co-founders Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan, said that this milestone reflects the numerous commitments they have made over the years to make better choices and create systems and procedures that will sustain people, the planet, and prosperity. What began as a desire to support their local industry and work with organic cotton has blossomed into a culture of continual development and innovation throughout their design, production, and operations. They are a proud female-led company that cares about its community, its staff, and its consumers. They are just now beginning to realize the full potential of the foundations we established at Bassike over 15 years ago, and they look forward to continuing on their road of fostering benefit for everyone.
