The Indian hospitality sector is making strides toward sustainability with a new partnership between Ascott India and Second Spin. This collaboration aims to reduce textile waste by transforming discarded hotel linens into reusable materials.
Ascott India, known for its premium hotels and serviced apartments, is working with Second Spin, formerly known as Retex, to recycle used linens into products such as yarns, fibres, and paper. Second Spin utilizes a modern and efficient supply chain to upcycle textiles, supporting a circular approach to material use.
The initiative began with participation from seven Ascott properties across India. Among them, Citadines OMR Chennai stands out for diverting 2 tonnes of textile waste from landfills. Prashanth Rajkumar, General Manager of Citadines OMR, noted that the effort has fostered a sustainable work culture that resonates with both staff and guests.
Prasanna Raghavan, Head of Finance and Sustainability at Ascott India, stated that this effort aligns with the company’s commitment to reducing waste and meeting its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives.
