Arc'teryx, a Canadian performance outerwear and equipment manufacturer, debuted a new circularity platform called ReBird on Wednesday, along with the first-ever upcycled items manufactured from post-consumer materials.
Customers will be able to access the Arc’teryx Used Gear resale initiative and buy Arc'teryx's upcycled Stowe Windshell, manufactured from end-of-the-roll fabrics recycled from the manufacturing process, as well as the brand's first-ever upcycled goods produced from post-consumer materials, the Upcycled Tote and Pouch, through the ReBird website.
Customers will be able to contribute to the brand's ongoing circularity programs, such as upcycling, resale, and care and repair, through the new ReBird portal, which will serve as an immersive venue for education and storytelling.
Customers in New York and Chicago will be able to buy Arc'teryx Used Gear parts in person for the first time this summer when they are sold for a short time at in-store events in both cities.
Senior manager of social & environmental sustainability at Arc'teryx, Katie Wilson, said at Arc'teryx, they've always made goods that last, and durability is critical to how they see themselves leading to a more circular economy and meeting their global warming goals.
She adds it allows them to do fun things like make new products out of old ones, resell used equipment, and repair. Although some of this work has been going on for as long as they've been around, others are brand new.
Since launching their Used Gear Program in 2019, Arc'teryx has launched ReBird, their first customer-facing site in the sustainability and circularity space. It also adds to the brand's recently announced Science-Based Targets, which call for a 65% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 2030.
Nicole McLaughlin was appointed the brand's first-ever fashion ambassador earlier this month. The New York-based artist is focused on the environment.
Arc'teryx is an organization based in the Coast Mountains of Canada. Its brands are sold in over 3,000 retail outlets around the country, including over 80 branded stores. The digital ReBird network is now available via the company's website.
