Archroma launches first durable silicone softener

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-09-26 16:44:45 – Switzerland

Archroma has introduced an innovative softener with its new SILIGEN D2W LIQ C, a durable silicone softener designed for cellulosic and cotton/Lycra blended knits. The specialty chemical company describes SILIGEN D2W LIQ C as the industry’s first truly durable silicone softener. It allows fabrics to stay soft and smooth while maintaining their ability to absorb moisture.

The product also minimizes side effects such as yellowing and phenolic yellowing. It is compatible with anionic components and easy-care resins, making it suitable for finishes like crease resistance. This broadens its use in functional textiles.

Archroma notes that SILIGEN D2W LIQ C is especially suited for clothing where comfort and breathability are essential, such as undergarments, sleepwear, children’s wear, dresses, trousers, T-shirts, and activewear.

According to Dhirendra Gautam, Archroma’s VP of global marketing and strategy, the new softener is a response to growing demand from brand partners for durability and comfort. “By enhancing both durability and cotton hand feel, it reduces the need for frequent replacement of garments, helping conserve resources, cut waste, and lower the industry’s environmental footprint,” he said.

The softener uses Archroma’s new patent-pending Micro-x chemistry, a cross-linkable microemulsion. This creates a stable silicone network inside cellulosic fibers, ensuring even distribution and locking in softness that resists washing.
