AP Textile Federation plans to stage Chalo Delhi protest against GST

Andhra Pradesh Textile Federation (APTF) has decided to stage ‘Chalo Delhi’ protest from June 22. Also the Federation threatened to launch an indefinite strike from June 24 if the Central government fails to give clarity on Goods and Services Tax (GST) imposed on textile products.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, APTF president B Malleswara Reddy said that ‘Chalo Delhi’ protest has been called by the federation to express stern opposition to GST council members and central government against the levy of taxes on textiles and that traders in AP are against the decision.

Reddy said that representations have also been submitted to Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu, finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao over exemption of GST on textiles but there has been no response till date.

A delegation will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union ministers Smriti Irani, Arun Jaitley to mount pressure to roll back the decision.

The APFT president also expressed his concern over chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s delay in intervening this issue.
