American-owned brand Ginew expands into women’s wear

Ginew, a Native American-owned denim brand based in Portland, Oregon, has ventured into women’s wear. Since its inception in 2010, Ginew has been known for heirloom-quality men’s garments featuring Native American design elements.

The new women’s collection continues this tradition, targeting eco-conscious and purpose-driven women who appreciate Native culture and storytelling. “We designed for the eco-conscious and purpose-driven woman who advocates for and appreciates Native culture, story, and style,” Bruegl and Brodt stated.

The brand introduced its women’s line last fall with pieces like the Ozelda, a high-rise, straight jean made from deadstock stretch selvedge denim, and the Niizhoo coat, a contemporary Type II denim jacket lined with a design by Native American artist Addie Roanhorse, woven by Pendleton Woolen Mills.

This spring, the collection expanded to include cropped carpenter jeans, ruffle tops, and a strawberry print tee, reflecting the Oneida community’s reverence for strawberries as the first medicine. The collection is available in sizes XS-XXL for tops and 24-32 for most bottoms, with prices ranging from $50 to $550.
