Altri SGPS S.A, a Portugal-based industrial group, has signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in AeoniQ, a Swiss company specializing in sustainable textile innovation and clean technology. The investment aims to accelerate the global industrial production of AeoniQ’s climate-positive cellulosic yarn and expand its reach into premium sustainable textile applications.

AeoniQ yarn is designed to replace traditional synthetic fibres like nylon and polyester with biodegradable, eco-friendly alternatives. With this partnership, the first full-scale AeoniQ production facility will be built at Altri’s Caima pulp mill in Portugal, with construction set to begin next year.

The partnership merges Altri’s manufacturing expertise with the technological capabilities of HeiQ, AeoniQ’s parent company. It is further supported by notable brands including Hugo Boss, THE LYCRA COMPANY, MAS Holdings, and suppliers such as Impetus and Lameirinho. José Soares de Pina, CEO of Altri, noted that the collaboration not only supports innovation but also allows Altri to move up the textile value chain.

AeoniQ’s yarns are fully biodegradable in freshwater, soil, and industrial composting settings. Certified by OEKO-TEX and TÜV Austria, they are soft, elastic, and versatile, suitable for products ranging from lingerie to automotive interiors.
