UK-based KnitMesh Technologies has introduced DroneStop Counter-UAS Shield, a stainless steel knitted wire mesh designed to provide a passive physical barrier against hostile unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). The company presented the technology at the Counter-UAS Homeland Security Europe conference in London, positioning it as a complementary layer alongside electronic drone detection and disruption systems.
DroneStop uses high-strength knitted wire mesh to create lightweight overhead or perimeter barriers around vulnerable assets. Unlike electronic counter-drone technologies, the system requires no power and does not depend on radio-frequency interference or signal jamming.
KnitMesh says the mesh can be installed permanently or deployed as a temporary rapid-response system around locations such as military facilities, aircraft infrastructure, communications equipment, prisons and other critical infrastructure. The standard mesh weighs approximately 1,500 gsm and is made from 304L stainless steel, with 316L and Duplex stainless steel options available.
UHMWPE reinforcement can also be incorporated for specific applications. Developed and manufactured in the UK, the technology builds on KnitMesh’s decades of experience in wire knitting for automotive, filtration, hydrogen, thermal management and industrial safety applications, with the company also operating a manufacturing facility near New Delhi, India.
