Dutch textile innovator BYBORRE will introduce DUNE, a new collection of 3D knitted textiles created in collaboration with London-based design studio Raw Edges, during London Design Festival this September. The collection takes inspiration from earthworks, crop circles, ploughed fields and natural patterns found in sand and snow.
DUNE combines warm, earthy neutral colours with a natural wool blend. Its three-dimensional knitting technique creates geometric patterns directly within the textile. This gives the surfaces an embossed and tactile appearance, with the depth and texture becoming part of the material itself rather than being added as decoration.
The collaboration combines BYBORRE’s experience in engineered knitted textiles with the experimental design approach of Raw Edges, the London-based studio founded by designers Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay.
For the presentation, the new textile will be used on a sofa designed by Raw Edges for furniture company Cozmo. According to the London Design Festival programme, the collaboration explores how geometric patterns can be created directly through 3D knitting, resulting in relief-like surfaces where the motifs are formed within the textile structure.
