The EU-funded BioFibreLoop project has introduced a new virtual modelling tool called Digital Twin to help researchers and manufacturers develop bio-based, non-toxic functional textiles more efficiently. The tool allows users to test textile embossing conditions digitally before carrying out physical production trials.
At present, the Digital Twin focuses on the textile embossing process. It simulates different embossing settings and predicts how each processing condition will affect the final surface of the fabric. This enables project partners to optimise product performance while reducing the need for repeated laboratory experiments.
According to the BioFibreLoop project, the virtual tool is designed to speed up product development, reduce material waste, and support better decision-making during the design stage. By evaluating multiple processing options digitally, researchers can identify the most suitable embossing conditions before moving to manufacturing.
