Wrangler has introduced Toughlite, a new lightweight denim innovation developed to meet the growing demand for jeans that offer comfort without compromising durability.
The new Toughlite jeans are designed as “zero-break-in” denim, providing premium comfort and improved airflow while reducing the heavy feel of traditional denim. The fabric weighs just 11.2 ounces, making it 20% lighter than Wrangler’s standard 14.75-ounce heavyweight denim.
To achieve a fabric that is significantly lighter without reducing its strength, Wrangler redesigned the manufacturing process. The company applied proprietary techniques throughout yarn spinning, fabric weaving, and garment finishing, allowing it to lower the fabric weight while preserving the durability expected from traditional heavyweight denim.
“The beauty of Toughlite is that it’s either 100% cotton or 98–99% cotton with just a small amount of elastane for stretch,” Aharwal said. He added that the development team deliberately avoided using synthetic fibre blends, demonstrating that lightweight performance and durability can be achieved primarily with cotton.
The new denim underwent extensive performance testing, including abrasion resistance, tear strength, and tensile strength, to ensure it could withstand everyday wear. Aharwal said the material was evaluated throughout every stage of production, from raw fabric and garment finishing to long-term home laundering simulations, confirming that Toughlite meets Wrangler’s durability standards.
