Biocompatibility Innovation (BCI), an Italy-based company specializing in biostealth technology for medical devices and life-support equipment, has introduced B-Kool, a plant-based technology that helps prevent bacterial contamination through a mechanical, non-biocidal approach.
B-Kool is built on BCI’s patented technology platform, which was originally developed to protect medical devices from unwanted biological reactions and improve their long-term performance. After more than ten years of research and development in the biomedical field, the company is now extending this technology to textiles, consumer products, industrial materials, and advanced manufacturing applications.
Unlike conventional antibacterial treatments that use metallic biocides or other chemical agents to kill microorganisms after they attach to a surface, B-Kool works by stopping bacteria from attaching to the surface in the first place.
The technology is made entirely from plant-based ingredients and is non-toxic and dermatologically tested for skin safety. It does not contain silver, metals, quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs), isothiazolinones, or other harsh chemicals. B-Kool has also received OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT certification and has been tested according to the ISO 22196 standard.
B-Kool can be applied as a surface finish or incorporated directly into materials during manufacturing. It is compatible with both natural and synthetic materials, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, including performance textiles, consumer goods, industrial composites, polymers, coatings, and other advanced materials.
