Leesa Sleep has introduced its newly developed GreenFlex foam across most of its mattress range, marking a significant step in reducing the company's reliance on fossil fuel-based materials. The plant-based foam is now available in nearly all Leesa mattresses.

GreenFlex was developed in-house by Leesa’s research and development team as part of the company’s efforts to create more sustainable bedding materials. The foam is made using plant-derived polyols, which are key building blocks used in the production of polyurethane foam.

According to Leesa, the plant oils used to produce GreenFlex come from crops grown on marginal land that is not suitable for commercial food production. Around 45 percent of the oil extracted from these plants is used in the manufacturing process, which also eliminates the need for chemical conversion to transform the oils into polyols.

In addition to its sustainability benefits, GreenFlex has been engineered to deliver the comfort and performance expected from modern mattress foam. Its open-cell structure promotes better airflow, helping improve breathability while providing pressure relief, body support, and long-lasting shape retention.

The material has received third-party certification confirming that it contains 26 percent renewable bio-based content, earning the USDA Certified Biobased Product label. GreenFlex is also certified by CertiPUR-US, which verifies foam quality and safety standards, and GREENGUARD Gold, which certifies low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to support healthier indoor air quality.
