Huhtamaki and Hesburger are expanding their long-standing partnership with the development of new fibre lids created for everyday foodservice use. The companies worked closely together to design lids that combine functionality with more sustainable packaging solutions.
The lids are made from renewable plant-based fibres and are produced at Huhtamaki’s Foodservice facility in Alf, Germany. The design has been carefully developed to provide a smooth and comfortable drinking experience while maintaining reliable performance for different beverage types.
Mira Eklund, Key Account Manager at Huhtamaki, said the collaboration with Hesburger has been efficient and valuable, while also supporting the sustainability goals of both companies. She added that the project reflects the strong partnership shared between the two organisations.
Sustainability remained a major focus throughout the development process. The fibre lids are recyclable, compostable, and free from plastic coatings. By replacing plastic lids with fibre-based alternatives, Hesburger expects to reduce plastic usage by around 41,000 kilograms every year.
