ABB, Syre to support textile recycling plant development

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2026-04-01 14:05:49 – Vietnam

ABB has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Syre to explore technologies for building Syre’s first textile-to-textile recycling plant in Vietnam.

The planned facility in Gia Lai province aims to recycle polyester from used textiles and industrial waste into new recycled polyester. Polyester is one of the most commonly used fibres globally and is usually made from fossil-based materials. Recycling it can reduce dependence on new fossil resources, lower environmental impact, and keep materials in use, supporting a more circular textile system.

Under this partnership, both companies will study how ABB’s technologies, such as control systems, industrial software, and electrification solutions, can be adjusted to meet the needs of textile-to-textile polyester recycling. This work will take place alongside the detailed design phase of Syre’s first plant.

Wilson Monteiro from ABB stated that this agreement highlights the company’s role in supporting new industrial applications where automation and electrification can improve resource efficiency. He added that ABB will work with Syre to apply its experience in fibre processing and industrial systems to polyester recycling.

Dennis Nobelius, CEO of Syre, shared that partnerships like this are essential as the company moves toward large-scale operations. He explained that textile recycling at this level is complex and requires strong industrial partners. He added that ABB brings the required expertise and plays an important role in building this industrial system.
