The initiative comes at a time when global regulatory scrutiny of PFAS is increasing. In the European Union, authorities have moved forward with a wide-ranging proposal to restrict large groups of PFAS under the REACH framework. In the United States, ostomy pouches and related accessories are classified as medical devices, placing responsibility on manufacturers for careful material selection, risk control, and regulatory compliance. PFAS-free alternatives can help companies simplify global market entry and better prepare their product portfolios for future regulations.

Performance has been measured against published gas and composition data, known odour factors, and clinical insights. The finished materials are available as roll goods or as cut filter inserts designed to fit standard ostomy pouch formats.
