Allbirds, based in San Francisco, has unveiled its new Terralux footwear collection made using Innovera, a next-generation bio-designed material developed by Modern Meadow. This leather alternative is created from plant-based proteins, biopolymers, and recycled nylon 6 derived from discarded tyres.
The material is completely free from animal content and is designed to match the look, feel, durability, and aging quality of traditional leather. It is processed in standard leather tanneries using familiar finishing and dyeing methods, ensuring a premium appearance and reliable performance without sacrificing quality. With more than 80 percent renewable carbon content, the material strengthens Allbirds’ continued focus on sustainable material development.
The Terralux collection features three styles, including two of the brand’s popular designs, Cruiser and Varsity, along with Runner NZ, a refreshed version of the original Wool Runner that helped establish the brand.
Jason Israel, Vice President of Design at Allbirds, described Terralux as a meaningful step forward for the company. He explained that Innovera makes it possible to achieve the appearance and texture of leather in a bio-based material, allowing the brand to create more refined and versatile footwear while maintaining its commitment to comfort and sustainability.
