Mercedes introduces leather-free S-Class interior

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2026-02-06 15:46:12 – Germany

Mercedes-Benz has revealed an updated version of the S-Class that features an interior without natural leather, instead using recycled and synthetic materials.

Inside the cabin, traditional leather has been replaced with Artico, a synthetic leather alternative, combined with a fabric made from recycled polyester and flax. The seats are finished with light-colored piping, while the door panels feature artificial leather with a diamond-stitched pattern. Customers who prefer a more traditional look can still choose a full black leather interior at no additional cost.

The refreshed S-Class, part of the W223 generation, is the first from the brand to offer a fully animal-free cabin. This option is available in several European countries, including Germany, where the base model is the short-wheelbase S 350 d 4Matic.

Despite being the entry-level variant, the S-Class continues to reflect its luxury status. Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, multiple digital screens including one for the front passenger, and a redesigned steering wheel that brings back physical buttons instead of touch controls.
