SMPP Limited, a leading Indian producer of soldier protection gear, has won two major contracts worth over ₹300 crore from the Indian Army under the Emergency Procurement Policy 5. The contracts involve supplying 27,700 bulletproof jackets and 11,700 advanced ballistic helmets to enhance the safety of Indian soldiers.
The bulletproof jackets are designed with advanced load-bearing systems and quick-release features, offering greater comfort and safety in combat situations. The helmets represent a breakthrough in Indian defense technology, being the first in the country capable of stopping steel-core AK-47 rounds.
Dr. Shiv Chand Kansal, Chairman and Managing Director of SMPP, expressed pride in this achievement, calling it a reflection of their commitment to “protect those who protect us.” The new order supports the ‘Make in India’ initiative, reinforcing local manufacturing in the defense sector and promoting self-reliance in protective equipment for the armed forces.
SMPP is a recognized leader in producing combustible cartridge cases for tanks and artillery, and has deep expertise in boron carbide ceramics, a key material in lightweight, high-performance armor for vehicles, aircraft, and personal protection. Its product range includes bulletproof jackets, helmets, shields, and armor kits for military, police, and paramilitary forces.
