Outdoor brand Astral, based in Seattle, has announced the expansion of its HempTech apparel line, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to sustainability and ecological health.
Building on the success of its earlier hemp-based gear, the updated HempTech collection features a variety of performance-driven garments, including long and short sleeve sun protection tees, hiking pants, hoodies, and shorts. These pieces are designed for outdoor adventures and offer natural breathability, durability, UV protection, and odour resistance, without the use of synthetic chemicals or petroleum-based materials.
Hemp plays a central role in Astral’s materials strategy because of its strong environmental benefits. It requires 79% less water than cotton, produces more than twice the fiber, and grows with little need for pesticides or fertilisers. Additionally, hemp enhances soil health and captures more carbon dioxide per acre than most other crops.
“We view hemp as a rare material that not only performs well but also supports ecological systems,” said Astral’s Founder and CEO, Philip Curry. “Regenerative, sustainable materials shouldn’t be seen as alternatives—they should be the standard.”
