Louis Vuitton Launches sustainable version of the LV Trainer

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2022-08-26 16:18:42 – France

French luxury fashion house, Louis Vuitton, launches a new sustainable unisex sneaker designed by its creative director Virgil Abloh. The company describes it as a new iteration of the LV trainer that "blends innovation, sustainability and eco-design, with its completely graphic silhouette" and is comprised of 90% recycled and organic materials.

According to Louis Vuitton, the sole is constructed of 94 percent recycled polyurethane, "with unaltered efficiency in terms of bounce, cushion and foot support." The insole is composed of completely recycled polyurethane, while the inside cushions are made of recycled cotton. The top is constructed from a mixture of recycled polyester and plastic derived from maize. The tongue, eyelets, and laces are constructed of recycled polyester, regenerated polyurethane, and used plastic, respectively.

The packaging is particularly eco-friendly because the shoe box can be transformed into a bag with a built-in handle and is made completely of recycled and recyclable cardboard. As a result, the environmental effect of storage and transportation is reduced by up to 70%. Vegetable-based inks were used to print the cardboard. The sneaker is further shielded with a felt shoe bag made of Tencel, a renewable fiber from sustainably managed forests.

The LV trainer comes in three colorways: white green, red, or black. It is embellished with the brand's iconic Sustainable Development emblem, monogrammed flowers on the outer sole, and "#54" on the inside sole.

Virgil Abloh's groundbreaking model, a new addition to the Louis Vuitton line and the epitome of the Maison's pioneering spirit, ushers in a new era in eco-design. The shoes combine eco-design with excellent workmanship and are made in the Louis Vuitton workshop in Fiesso d'Artico, Italy, utilizing a highly sophisticated technique, according to a press statement from the fashion brand.

The LV Trainer will be offered in red and black starting in September at select Louis Vuitton stores around the world and online. It is now only available in white with green accents. Regarding the cost, no information was provided.
