Cameroon govt disbursed CFA5 bn to CICAM for modern equipment

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2017-10-27 11:00:00 – Africa

Cameroon's cotton company, CICAM is the main cotton processing company in the Central African sub-region with three factories: one in Garoua for milling and weaving raw cotton and two in Douala for processing the raw cotton and weaving household linen.

The Cameroon government has disbursed CFA5 billion into Cameroon’s cotton company (CICAM), to buy modern equipment in order to innovate and adapt to the market.

Three years ago, Cameroon's government had taken back the control of CICAM, because, it did not want to lose the textile industry which is a key sector for the country’s development, said Nicolas Njoh, commercial director at Cameroon’s cotton company (CICAM).

Njoh said that they are reviewing everything, the prices, the redistribution and their partnership with traders; just to revive the textile industry. He further said that French people were the company’s main shareholder but they left the company due to the counterfeiting and smugglings.

Cameroon’s government has already set up modern equipments in Garoua milling and weaving factory and Douala printing factory; as they wanted to manufacture new types of fabrics and they have started manufactured them.
