In Perspective
India, which produces 14.67% of the global silk output is the second largest producer of silk in the world . China is the world's largest silk producer with an output of 57.41 % .Japan which is major consumer of silk produces 8% of total output.North Korea's share in silk output is 5.6% .Thailand closely followed by Iran produce 1.66% and 1.2% respectively.
 
 
 
      Polyester Chips

PET chips (semi dull, continues spinning filament grade) prices in the week of May 19, were in the range of US$1,000-1,010 a ton FOB Southeast Asia. For Water- bottle-grade chips the market transaction value was quoted as US$1,100 per ton. Prices of continuously polymerized PET chips (semi dull, filament grade) were lower than last week. Prices this week were in the range of US$1267-1285 a ton (10,150-10,300 yuans) down from last week's price of US$1,275-1,285 a ton. As prices dropped plants reported improved sales. Batch polymerized PET chips (super bright, filament grade) were quoted at US$ 1,285-1,310 a ton (10,300-10,500 yuan).
