      Ethylene glycol

MEG prices rose US$10 a ton in the week ended 7 April partially recovering from the sharp decline in mid-March. As of 7 April ethylene glycol was traded at US$825-830 per ton ex-Korea and ex-Taiwan for April cargo (LC 90 days), up from US$800 a ton in the previous week. In China, quotations for goods in bonded area were at US$830 while buying ideas were in the range of US$820-825 a ton. They were up US$5-10 from their respective values a week ago.

In Perspective
Non-wovens production, worldwide, is expected to reach US$22.4 billion by 2009 from US$15.9 billion in 2004. In terms of volume, production will be around 163 billion sq. metres or 6.32 million tonnes. This implies that the industry would expand at the rate of 7% per annum in the next 5 years. Europe is predicted to account for over 25% of non-woven and unspun products by the end of this decade.
