AKH Group, one of the highly integrated leading group in apparel manufacturing and exporting from Bangladesh which supplies to the like of M&S, Gap Inc, H&M, Primark, PVH and Debenhams has opened a new green factory, AKH Eco Apparel Ltd, investing Tk150 crore (US$25m) to set up the factory.

The new factory has been LEED certified by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for its eco friendly measures. The new factory has also received gold certification from LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Gold is the second highest LEED rating, after platinum.

A conference to promote Ethiopia's Textile and Garment Industry kicked off in Hilton Hotel, Addis Ababa on 8 February, 2016 under the theme "Towards Increasing Sustainability and Competitiveness in Ethiopia's textile and garment industry.

The conference aims to help improve the competitiveness of the Ethiopian textile and garment industry as contributor to sustainable employment generation and economic development of the country and is expected to promote awareness on the importance of social and environmental standards.

Domestic cotton prices to remain under pressure in 2016-17, according to India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) report, due to continuation of Chinese direct subsidy-based policy and lower demand from spinning mills.

India Ratings and Research Senior Analyst Neermoy Shah said that it maintains a negative outlook on the cotton sector for the next fiscal. Though Bangladesh, Pakistan and Vietnam have replaced China with India as a supplier, volumes are picking up at a slow pace, and are unlikely to match Chinese demand

The 15th International Textile Asia Trade Fair to be held in Karachi will be inaugurated by Federal Minister for Commerce Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan. The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) is organizing this mega textile trade fair in collaboration with Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan.

The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has started survey to develop the proposed textile parks at Sayane in Malegaon tehsil of the district and would be sending the proposal to develop infrastructure such as road, water supply, streetlights to the head office in Mumbai, shortly.

The MIDC has proposed the textile park on 113 hectares, of which, 100 hectares have been acquired by the MIDC so far. The state agency is in the process of acquiring the remaining land.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday, speaking on the Maiden 'Make In India' Week which is to begin in Mumbai from February 13 stated that the Make in India Week would address the issue of agrarian crisis in Maharashtra, A dedicated seminar on textile industry is aimed at cherishing the dream of 'from farm to fashion', which would help state's cotton growers.

The CM also said that cotton growers in Vidarbha, Marathwada and parts of North Maharashtra would benefit from the textile policy and that the government would be creating textile parks.

Asian MEG markers gained US$33 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the last week of January.

In China, discussions and trading price for nearby-month cargoes were between US$570-575 a ton early in the week, which were hiked to US$585-590 a ton midweek, with higher offers for forward-month at US$600-605 a ton.
