The textile ministry announced number of welfare measures for weavers, artisans, jute and sericulture workers, and entrepreneurs belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category on Wednesday.

A group insurance scheme has also been decided for the powerloom workers free of cost and will bear the maximum financial burden of such a scheme. The government will bear the weaver’s share of Rs 80 completely, taking its own share to Rs 370 per weaver, out of the total premium of Rs 470 per weaver. The remaining Rs 100 per weaver will continue to be paid from the Social Security Fund of LIC.

Nyanza textile industries, locally known as Nytil, Uganda's largest integrated textile industry has urged the government to enforce the textile policy so as to save the local industry from undue competition arising from imported clothes, particularly the second-hand clothes. Statistics indicate that about 80 percent of textile products consumed in the country are imported, with majority being mivumba - second hand clothes.

Saigontex 2016 textile exhibition held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam this year concluded successfully under the slogan “Think Taiwan for Textiles” where the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) promoted the island’s textile industry under the three themes of fashion, function and eco-friendliness.

The Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) also promoted the island's unique sample at this year's exhibit including eco-textiles, function and fashion textiles, dyes and trimmings.

In China, medium-length staple fiber prices jumped US cents 2-7 a kg in the last week of March while cotton-type staple rose US cents 3 a kg.

Acrylic staple fibre spot prices were stable during the week in Asian markets. Buying interest of downstream mills remained subdued, reflecting lackluster outlook of yarn and fabric, without any bullish factors.

In China, run rate dropped that week as Ningbo Zhongxin was on planned maintenance shutdown, tightening overall supply somewhat.

Asian acrylonitrile marker, the CFR Far East Asia rolled over in the last week of March while Southeast Asia was steady. In China, sporadic offers for offshore cargoes were at US$930-950 a ton CFR China, but buyers were noncommittal to deep‐sea cargoes due to long freight period.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markers were steady for the second consecutive week amid thin trading as buyers were on the sidelines, awaiting overseas offers. Sell ideas for cargoes were up on high feedstock cost. In China, spot prices saw up and down that week underpinned by response to low domestic values.
