Pakistan cotton output plunge by 34pc in the current season

Pakistan’s cotton production plunged 34.28 percent to 9.768 million bales in the current season compared to the country’s output of 14.863 million bales in the same period of last season, ending in the mid of April. The drop in output this season is due to the crop’s soft local and international prices forced the farmers, hit by pest attacks and heavy rains, to cut acreage, according to the Pakistan Cotton Ginners’ Association (PCGA).

Turkey to hit anti-dumping duties on U.S. cotton imports, the decision to introduce tariffs has been widely expected since Turkey's Economy Ministry said in February that U.S. cotton was hurting the country's domestic industry, a U.S. industry trade association said on Monday, fraying relations between one of the world's top fiber growers and one of its biggest customers amid weak global prices and demand.

Imports on a cost, insurance and freight (CIF) basis will incur dumping duties of 3 percent effective immediately, the NCC said, the first official confirmation of the move.

Government of India and the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) for the first time have zeroed in on Surat's textile industry to promote its fabrics as an emerging brand. A two-day long buyer-seller meet will be organized under the 'Source India' programme from August 13 in the Diamond city Surat which is also the country’s largest man-made fabric (MMF) industry.

Over 100 fabric importers and garment manufacturers from across West Asia, Africa and South America will come down to the Diamond City for direct sourcing of fabrics manufactured in Surat.

Nylon yarn price jumps as demand picks up in China

In China, semi-dull FDY70D/24F prices rose US cents 3 a kg in the first week of April while FDY40D was flat on the week.

Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices were also flat while 30D/10F prices were up US cents 7 a kg at the upper end.

Monofilament 30D prices rolled over while 1.5D staple fiber marched higher on the week.

Caprolactum prices stable to up in China

In China, liquid good offers were stable in the first week of April while solid goods offer inched up US$25 a ton on the week.

Asian markers, the SE and FE markers rolled over during the week.

Sinopec retained April contract at US$1,700 a ton for liquid goods while Fibrant (formerly DSM Nanjing) kept April nomination at US$1,730 a ton for liquid goods.

Momentum Group an Irvine based textile maker selling textiles, primarily to furniture makers, architecture and design firms has been acquired by Cleveland-based Riverside Co. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Momentum has a highly-successful organic growth-oriented business model that stems from providing innovative sustainable products from a global supply base to a diverse set of customers in a variety of end markets, said Timothy Kuchi, NEP Partner and Momentum board member.

Cotton price shoots up with short supply of fine quality

The cautious trading attitude was maintained by buyers on the market, even though cotton arrival was larger and ginners had in ginneries some 0.8 million bales but sellers were not flexible to ease the high cost of doing business. According to arrivals factories received 11.349 million bales. Again on the last session of the week prices moved up .The spot rate also raised by Rs50 to Rs 3650 and the lint prices shot up to Rs 3800.
