Over 90% of the textile and clothing industry in the MSME sector causing delays and affecting the financial capability of the units

The industry had seen reduction in downside and ROSL by over 5 % of FOB since the pre-GST period. Also, Indian textile and clothing exporters did not have better access in countries markets such as the European Union which countries such as Bangladesh and Vietnam had. These had an impact on the exports. Though annual apparel exports are at 17 billion $ now, the industry is confident of 20 % growth this financial year if there a level-playing field.

The final closing is planned for the end of the third quarter of this year. The Austrian Starlinger Group based in Vienna will take over the German business unit from Chemnitz also known under the brand name ‘Barmag Spinnzwirn’. Both parties have agreed to not disclose the purchase price. The purchase contract was signed accordingly by both companies this week.

Royal DSM announced last week that it will increase production capacity for Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber™. The company is investing to install additional new UD technology at its plant in Heerlen, the Netherlands, and its plant in Greenville, N.C. The capacity expansion will enable DSM to fulfill the growing global customer demand. The growing domestic U.S. market will be served better from DSM’s Greenville facility. It will also make improvements to existing production lines to expand Dyneema UD and Dyneema fiber capacity, incorporating the latest technologies.

Prices of Shankar 6, the popular cotton variety used by mills, are ruling at around Rs 43,000 per candy (a candy is about 355 kgs). The landed cost for imported cotton of a similar variety works out to Rs 48,000-50,000 per candy. Especially in the export market, cotton prices are ruling lower than the international market giving mills the much needed momentum.

Cabinet headed by PM Narendra Modi had approved Integrated Scheme for Development of Silk Industry earlier which will benefit the silk industry of the country. Rs 1,000 crore polyester staple fibre unit in Odisha by IOC and MCPI together

The unit is scheduled to come up on 200 acres at Dhamnagar in the state’s Bhadrak district and it will source raw material from Haldia in West Bengal and have a 108 kta (kilo tonnes per annum) PSF capacity. It will also produce 180 kta of drawn texture yarn (DTY) and 36 kta of full drawn yarn (FDY) mainly used as technical textiles, which find broad use in industrial textile and in the garments trade.

This is the second such downstream petrochem facility in the state, where IOC is also setting up a plastic park at Paradip close to its refinery.
